With news of Jermain Defoe’s impending transfer to MLS side Toronto hitting the headlines, confirmation of Jonathan Obika’s loan to Brighton and Hove Albion got lost along the line but the deal gives the striker another chance to prove himself away from White Hart Lane.
However, it could very much be a last chance as the 23 year old starts what will be his tenth temporary stint away from his parent club since 2009. None of those spells has produced anything like the desired striker’s ratio of a goal every other game but in a Brighton team battling to get back into the play offs, this is a big chance for Jon.
As for his Tottenham career, Obika has very much fallen down the pecking order and with Harry Kane taking the role as fourth striker, his options seem limited. If he impresses at the Amex, this should probably herald a permanent move away from Spurs.
